yeah, i see what you're saying.. pretty much what i want to do is go ahead and buy a big turbo, and run low enough boost to keep the engine from blowing, atleast until i buy an aftermarket block. i want a turbo that is properly sized so that i can stay in the "safe zone" with the stock block, but be able to pump out big numbers when i go with the aftermarket block, without having to upgrade turbochargers. i also only want to hit boost when i want to hit boost, AKA stay out of the boost range for regular driving, but hit it REAL hard when i punch it.

so basically, here's my question: would i be able to run a 76mm (or 67mm) turbocharger, and even possibly an aftermarket top end and keep the power low enough to stay in my stock block's safe range, but be able to up the boost enough to produce 600-650hp when i get an aftermarket block? pretty much what i want is to keep it fairly toned down (below 500 crank hp) until i have a block that can handle it...

sounds like your going about it all backwards

dont put a huge turbo on that engine right now. go ahead spray that fucker while your building up the turbo engine. there ya have a safe place. daily driving its on motor. ready to punch it open the bottle

Just my opinion

why dont u just build a 347 it will cost about the same as a turbo kit and provide some good power

Stock blocks handle alot more turbo HP than any other dute to a non linear boost curve. A stock 5.0 block have handled in excess of 600 HP.

In a turbo engine you should be able to keep ultra low boost by being easy on the throttle, even at high RPMs.

yeah, but the main reason i wanted to keep the hp low (even when i'm getting in the boost hard) is because i know i'd punch it every once in a while.. i'd rather know the engine was somewhat safe under WOT as opposed to having high hp and having to keep my foot out of it

I gotcha. If you were to keep the punches of throttle to a minumum, I think you'd still be OK.

I didnt see Justin had already dropped quicktime out there...

BWAL go with Quicktime...You will not find a better turbo kit out there...

I am going to be running a Quicktime turbo kit myself in the near future when he finishes the 2V kit I am going to put my order in...
