Speedometer and Chiming problem

i dont know if its because it was sitting for a while with it barley being driven but my Speedometer doesnt work. it slowly goes up. and it hangs at 20mph for a few seconds and then it climbs up slowly and then it bounces around from 40 to 60 mph and then when i slow down it takes a while to go down and then hangs at 20 mph and eventually goes all the way down after i been stopped for a little.

What could be the problem???

and when ever i open my door my Chime goes on. doesnt matter if the lights are on or off or if the keys in the ignition or not. it doesnt shut off until the door is shut.

why is it doing that?? its not that big of a deal but it is annoying.

oh great. im sure i need to have this fixed for insp. and my luck ill end up messing the odometer up when i do this.

hypothetically speaking what could happen if i do this and mess up the odemeter and it isnt even or what ever and they suspect milage roll back. thats the last thing i need right now.

You won't ruin your odometer but you could break the plastic piece that holds the cable to the speedo. Be very careful removing your instrument cluster. You must squeeze the plastic piece were the cable goes into the speedo. DON'T force it out.

Or if it is loose or seems loose just push it back on. Personally I can't imagine that piece coming out because it is a pain in the but to remove.

If it isn't that it could be your speedo gear at the trany. That is an easy fix.

I was gonna say, i thought mine was the wrong one it was so damn hard to get off and get the new one on....actually sounds like a cluster issue is you have an electronic speedo sender because of the chime issue

I have a brand new a.z speedo cable, and with my 4.56 gears, it bounces form 0-30 at first, smooths out, then starts bouncing again. Just so you can see it may not necessarily be the cable, a cable is an inexpensive place to start
