Leaking Oil

Ok so I changed my oil 2 weeks ago and I did not change the oil pan bolt gasket and tightened it up and put my filter on blah blah and added oil.

I noticed I was dripping so I got under there and tightened it 1 half turn and figured ok so it wasnt tight enough it will stop now.

Well found out it was still dripping so I tightened a little more but it still drips so Im not going to try and tighten it anymore because I don't want to overtighten the bolt and ruin my oil pan.

Do you guys think its dripping because I didnt replace the bolts gasket/washer thingy? My current one is plastic which i thought was kind of weird how would that stop oil....

Do you think if i change out the bolt washer/gasket it will fix my problem? (btw no oil leaking from filter thats perfect)

just tighten it with a wrench, you should be able to tell when its tight enough. dont torque the shit out of it. or your gonna strip either the bolt or the pan threads out. Then your gonna have to get a pan saver plug which suck balls

Well I'll tell you what I do. When I take the plug out for an oil change, I immediately wipe it off and put a little bit of ultra black RTV around the threads and base of the bolt.

I let it set up for about 20 minutes while I let the oil drain and change the filter. I wipe all the oil off the pan and then I put the bolt back in there just slightly tighter than hand tight. Let the RTV cure for a little bit while I put the car back on the ground, put tools away etc... Then I fill with oil, run it, and check the level. I have never had a pan bolt leak oil.

reckon how much of that rtv is unthreading off the bolt when you remove the bolt from the pan and getting in the engine?
