yes cause the sump in the front and back.

They have a "forward" sump because the 5.0 and Windsor engines have the oil pump located at the forward half of the block, directly below the distributor. This forward sump is needed to clear the pump and happens to hold about 1/2 quart of oil.

The rear sump is the actual "oil reservoir" that holds the majority of the engines oil.

Obviously...both sumps are drained when changing the oil....if not...you will be mixing your new oil with the old/dirty oil that is held in the front sump.

why don't I have these 2 oil drain plugs....


I have a transmission plan plug to drain


an oil pan plug to unscrew in drain located at the back of the oil pan like a fire hydrant

The pre-fox Mustang's engine is positioned higher over the K-member and did not have a "double sump". Thus...they have only one drain plug.

Here is a pic of a Fox body oil pan...if you look close, you can see the front sump drain plug.

my 351w double sump pan only has a plug in the rear.
