Clutch Don't Work
well i can change through gears when im stopped at a light but if i try to shift from first to second and so on when im driving it doesnt work, but sometimes it does. i was thinking maybe the clutch cable needs to be adjusted but i dont know, can anyone plz help.

Does the pedal feel sloppy? You might have a stretched cable or a bad factory clutch quadrant. Or the pressure plate could be bad too.

yeah i think it is the quadrant cause its really loose but is it supposed to be clicked in or out?

I don't know what year yours is but if it's a stock clutch and cable mid to late 80's, you can adjust it by pulling the clutch pedal towards you, then pushing the pedal to the floor. The quadrant if good will catch some adjusting teeth to make the adjustment . Not a great system but worked when I had my 86GT.
If you replace the clutch cable or clutch, don't make the same mistake I made by using the stock repalcement FRPP cable which has to be adjusted at the clutch fork, go for the fire wall adjusted unit, will save alot of hassle and crawling under your car to get the adjustment right. You will probably want to replace the quadrant too. |
