high oil level

can having too much oil cause it to leak? i just rebuilt my motor and when i get on it it sprays oil out onto my exhaust. im still trying to find where its coming from.

i checked my oil and its over full and there is oil misted all over the bottom of my car. i re-tightened the oil pan bolts and it still leaks.

any ideas?

you can blow seals really easily that way. and if you have a hell of a lot of oil, it may make its way up into the cylinder head and oil doesnt compress real easily in gas motors...

how much oil did you put in it?

i thought i put in the 5 quarts i needed but apparently i put way to much in. im going to change the oil then pressure wash the whole underside of my car so i can see if it starts to leak again.

Ya, or I think ive heard about dipsticks lifting under to much pressure and causing oil to spray out..

I know my dad had a problem with the dipstick floating up on his Chevelle, but once he ran another set a breathers it got rid of the pressure.

Brett!

Could be fuel mixed in there as well. You'll know when you drain it. That would not be cool if your blow by is that bad that your oil is forced out the tube.
