need cold air intake Help

My 1988 mustang gt has a computer from an 89 gt and a 73mm C&L MAF. Problem is, the so called "Cold air intake" Ends up with the filter right under the scorching hot radiator tube and close to the engine, so im sure i am loosing massive horsepower with this set up. I was looking at this

BBK Cold Air Intake (86-93 5.0L) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

But Will my C&L silver thing bolt into that? does anyone have a clue what the fuck im talking about? I dont like the way it looks either, looks ghetto rigged.

that cold air intake will work fine... your MAF meter (silver thing) lol will be fine. The fender well CAI will draw a lot cooler air

I think the setup i have now is actually worse than the stock system. I mean when i put my hand by it its almost burning me from the heat of the engine and the radiator hose. Plus the fenderwell will provide more circulation, in the engine bay you are sitting in stale heat.

Cold air kits with bends before the meter do not work well with C&L meters. Coupling one with my old C&l resulted in rough idle, surging, and hesitation. C&L told me by email the were designed to work with the stock air box. I went to the junk yard got a stock box $10, K&N panel filter put it on and presto no probs. The stock box is a cold air kit just not to pretty.

This is actually a problem with a lot of MAF's. One thing Pmas did with theirs is to add basically a screen infront of the MAF to smooth out the turbulence coming off the bend. You can easily simulate this with a piece of screen stretched tight over the front of the MAF opening. I'd be curious to see if it actually works.

You'll be fine with the BBK. You won't notice the turbulence until you start to fine tune the car with a tuner. In a day to day application, you shouldn't have any problems with it. I have one for my car.... of course, I've been building my engine since dinosaurs walked the earth so I can't remember if there was any gain when I bought it or not... certainly no loss of power though.

Ryans88gt told me that C&L said to clock or rotate the sensor position in various spots, to compensate for the bends in the CAI. This worked for me.

That air filter looks very small, maybe good for a civic
