clutch problem!

I just bought a 1989 mustang 5.0L from my neighbor so I am new to the mustang world! It runs great but I do have a question though:

The clutch pedal is very stiff and I have to push it to floor as far as it will go to actually shift to any gear. Shifting to first and reverse causes the gears to grind and it doesnt just slide in, I have to shove it into gear. When I'm driving and shifting from any other gear, shifting is not smooth at all, I really have to use some muscle to push the shifter into gear and at the same time if I dont have the clutch pedal forcefully to the floor the gears just grind.

My neighbor did say that the clutch was aftermarket but is this normal? Either way the car is more of a hassle to drive because gears do not shift smoothly and the pedal is so hard to push down. What do I need to replace or adjust to fix this?

On the reverse grinding issue. Just put it into 5th then into reverse. that is how i do it and no grinding. I think they all grind going into reverse. It is the T5 transmission. They are like that.

Like I said first put into 5th then into reverse. Works for me

adjustable cable, which is what i have, adjusts under the car, you just tighten or loosen a nut on the cable, firewall one you can adjust from under the hood, so you dont have to climb under the car. i think mine was like 40 bucks off summmit
