Thinking of a strip only notch

I've been toying with the idea of a full race notchback with probably some type of 351 variant.. not too concerned with the motor (at first) as much as I will be with the suspension and trans. and the rest of the car. I'm looking to do the engine on a budget at first, until I dial the rest of the car in, so what are some good "stock" heads I can start with for a 351 are the gt40's it, or are there some other ok flowing heads for the 351? This will be a carb'd engine BTW. and what about a good auto, I haven't dealt with ford autos before, so is the c4 my choice or are there better trannys out there?

C4. It's all you need. Built preferably.

+1 on the c4. the c6 is only good for tow vehicles, youll loose a lot of horsepower through a c6 and its heavy as hell too.

So is a c4 a c4? meaning, are there any revisions or any versions of the c4 that I should seek out that are better than others or are they the same trans in every car for every year they were made? I ask because they made them from the 60's to the 80's so I'm thinking that at some point they made some changes to it somewhere and if there are certain yrs or models I should avoid, I want to know beforehand.
