How do I use a shift kit?
The car was purchased a while ago and the seller mentioned there was a shift kit already installed. how ever he did not mention what brand or any other information.
the shift schedule seems to be stock however the pressure seems higher (firmer). I was looking into a shift kit from TransGo since people seem to have only good things to say about it. but before i do i would like to make sure i am using the Shift kit that is in the car now properly. the part that bugs me is when i am driving the car will not down shift from 3-2 going 45-50. i have read the article about adjusting the pressure line from the TB. no matter how i adjust it it will not down shift. so my question is on the TransGo web site they advertise hold any gear to any RPM. but i cannot figure out how would i do that. do i need to drop it into first (1) to hit second. honestly i don't think that is the way to do it. i just wanted to ask people why it is not down shifting. also lets say i do install the TransGo shift kit how to i hold gears? just 1 - D - OD? because at the moment when i hit D it goes right to third. any help would be great. Thanks, Steve |

all a shift kit does is firm up your shifts and holds gears longer.
i assume you have an aod tranny, so the reason it wont go from 3-2 around 45-50 is because youre not giving it enough gas, depending on your gearing 2nd gear at 45-50 would probably be around 4-4500 rpms. do you just gently press on the gas or do you floor it to try and downshift? |

Sorry for the late reply...
Yes i do floor it. That would be the only to get max TV pressure. people have also mentioned i could have a stretched out TV pressure cable. But in messing around i have taken out all the slack from the cable, but still nothing. so i set it back to normal. i used this guide... TV Linkage Adjustment & Retrofit Page - Baumann Electronic Controls, LLC this was one guide i used but i also found a youtube video with a slightly different method. pretty soon i might just get a gauge to check it out. Thanks Again, Steve L. |
