engine cast number?
i have what looks to be a roller motor thats in my car. it has the spider in the lifter valley that holds down the dogbones and a efi distributer, and heres my dilema:
i need to know as much as i can about my particular block or not, whether is an H.O. motor or not. i could try the H.O. firing order but i would need a carburated distributer out of an 85, but because i dont know if its an HO or not, i dont know if i should get the cast iron geard one or the steel geard one the sticker thats on the pass side valve cover is all ripped up and i can only see the number 7-221-R00 and it says E7...but its ripped up after that. i know the cylinder head casting numbers is on the underside of the head but i would like to know where i could find out the number for the block. any help would be greatly appreciated. |

E7 = 1987.
If it is a roller block with a spider and dog bone, it should be HO firing order as best as I can remember. If it is a E7 casting, then it is 1987 which is a HO block with forged TRW pistons and rods, cast crank. Should also have "xXx" cast on each side of the lifter valleys near the middle of the block just under the head surface.

HO or not. He can put in an HO style cam such as a letter cam and run the 351 firing order. Just the pistons might not be TRW if its a crown vic or grand marquis motors.

i have the manual to decode the numbers, but i need to know where on the block i can get the numbers. like near the starter or something like that. im gonna pull the distributer tomorrow and hopefully it has a steel gear, meaning its a damn good chance i have an HO motor. thanks guys |

well i guess it dont matter too much now. at first it went right over my head, i didnt think to see if i could turn it by a wrench and i went to turn it today to put the distributer in today and it wouldnt move, so i have a seized motor. awesome. i think it was an 86 motor, it had 86 heads and distributor.
