Turbo kit on Ebay?
Hey guys i was looking at Superchargers and Turbo's And cant deside what i want to do. I am going to be taking the engine apart and inspecting all my parts and everything, and i figured since i would be apart, when i go to put it back together adding a turbo wouldnt be too hard ( since the engine will already be out of the car and what not ) So i cant deside Turbo or Supercharger. And then i saw this Turbo on ebay, what do ya think>
I know nothing about turbo's so anything helps. Or if ya know of any other websites i could look it that would be great! I was leaning towards a Turbo Kit IF i could get one for less then the Supercharger i was looking at thats is $3000. Heres the S/C kit.> Vortech 4FA218-040SQ - Vortech Centrifugal Supercharger Kits - summitracing.com So basically i would prob get a turbo if the kit ( That includes Everything i need to install and go ) if i could get it for less than 3K. But hopefully give me around 100+ HP? If you know anything that can help (b/c i dont even know what i should look for and good prices, quality, and a complete kit) that would really help me out. Again i would be installing it myself so if its more work then i think and ya think i should just go with the S/C then let me know too. Thanks guys for any and everything! - The Novice. |

Btw. is there an easy way to up the PSI on a S/C or Turbo? I saw the Vortech V-2 Supports up to 20PSI, is there anyway i can get it to like 15-16 PSI myself or is it a ton of work or impossible?

easy.. with a s/c buy a pulley
with a turbo use a boost controller.

This is a rant has little to do with this thread and may be completely wrong but I hate hearing about someone running #20-30 pounds of boost on a smaller engine and mocking a larger engine that is only running 10-15# like it is inferior or weak. This is all theory here but the more cu inches you have, the more power you develop for each pound of boost. SC and turbos do not actually make "boost", they are centrifugal pumps that force air into the manifold. The boost level is what is left after it comes into the manifold and then out into the cylinder on the intake stroke. The larger the displacement of the engine, the more air it inhales on each stroke so it takes a lot more air to maintain a certain boost level and a lot more air will be forced into the cylinders. Think of it another way. Assume you have a car tire with a nail hole in it. You can use a bicycle pump to maintain 35# of air in that tire. Now, make that nail hole the size of a dime. You and a bike pump can not maintain 35# of air in that tire anymore, you can probably maintain 5 if your lucky. Even though you are putting just as much air in the tire with both holes with the pump, the tire deflates to 5#. It would take a fairly large compressor that can put out a huge amount of air to maintain 35# with the dime hole. Think of a larger engine as the dime hole, and a smaller engine the nail hole. With that increased amount of air, you will need a lot of fuel to maintain a safe A/F ratio. The result with that much more air and that much more fuel is a lot more power in the larger engine compared to the smaller engine at the same boost level. Am i wrong on this?

Everything you said is completely right. The psi is the psi of the air going in, which is (on our engines) much higher cfm than a little 4 banger civic.
but wtf is a tire doing in your engine bay? especially one with a hole in it! =)

quicktime, B&G turbo, and ponydown all make respectable turbo kits for around $3K.
HP and hellion are more complete with fuel mods etc... but cost more like $5K.
