My FIrst Motor Pull Experience

Today I pulled my motor out for the first time in my life and it all went swell. The only thing I fucked up was this metal gasket thing that's between the motor and the tranny on the bottom, but still managed to pull it out.

I pulled the motor only, not the m & t. Just for those who haven't done it yet, just break down the accessory bolts and get the brackets and shit off, unplug your fuel lines and egr plugs, take off your intake manifold(Upper), PCV hose, smog pipe of the back, radiator, fuel injector plugs, and all the other plugs on the motor one lower motor mount bolt on each side, starter and the vacuum hoses.

After that, loosen all the bolts on the back and also get down and get the very bottem bolts so you won't experience what I did. It's a 10 dollar fix for me so I wasn't to mad after I saw what happened. What I did was of course used the cherry picker with the leveler and leveled the front part towards me. Then I used a hydro car jack and slightly angled the tranny up a tad(Be careful of the input shaft when doing this. Then slowly jack the engine up while using the leveler to balance out over and inside the tranny so the clutch/torque converter will slide out. During the lifting process, I had my dad pull forwards towards him as I am lifting it out and BOOM!!!! it's out. From there, you can lift it straight on out and put in your big block or whatever you're gonna put in.

Now This is my first experience so don' be gettin all bigheaded for those who have done this "A hundred times". I am just explaining how I did this thread to show those, it's not an easy task, but it aint hard either. Never let someone tell you "You Can't" because there's always a way. I was told "You can't" pull the motor by itself because the input shaft, well I took off the radiator, the accessories and had pops pull forward and it pratically slide right out so piss on this!

If you have questions you can ask me or whatever, I wanted to share my first experience so thanks guys for reading. Next is my electricals, everything will be independant.

Well I've taken accessory bolts off a hundred times so I know where they go. All I labeled was the motor bolts. Yeah it was fun like hell and it was getting frustrating but after while, I took a break and stop letting the sun melt my brain for a while, then I went back out and 30 seconds later (From 4 hours of labor), I pulled it and was happy.

I see why some companies charge $2,100, $3,000 to remove an engine(Although is a tad overcharged) But The experience really makes me respect other mechanics more... FUck that $10k in my charge and there's $4k non refundable deposit LOL

I believe your talking about the "block plate" , hold on to that and straighten it out the best you can, or else the flywheel might scrub on it when you put it back together.

BTW nice job there. Experience. Best tool you will ever have.

well it's fucked, I ripped it from the two bottom bolts. No biggy, thats a cheap fix. just jegs another one. Also flattusmaximus, if you're putting another motor in or wahtever, if the displacement is bigger than 302 or 351, put a better cam in it. The F-Cam is good but you can find better

Thanks you guys for the support and yep experience is the best tool and didn't require me to pay $30,000 at ati or some dumb shit. I'm sorry schools to become a mechanic is a rip off. One of my old friends who I no longer talk to never finished high school but works as a service tech a ford

I was surprised to learn how easy it is to work on a car. Sometime the old rusty bolts are frustrating but if you can use a ratchet youll be fine. I removed and replaced/fix everything on my old vw minus the suspension arms and removable frame parts. All in my drive on my back too!
