Drivin Me Nuts!
I went to the Ford day at englishtown and on the way home In herd a very unusal noise on the way home. It sounded like a circular saw cutting through plywood. It did it alll the way home a 120 miles or so. The thing is when I hit my brakes it went away. It sounded like a backing plate rubbing or something, but Not!. The brake pade are good and the drivers side wheel bearing is a little loose but not enough to make a noise like that I thine"never herd a noise like that from a wheel bearing. I have an aftermarket K-member and a-arms installed with a coil over kit. Any ideas?

my buddy had a g'd out mustang lowerd and he keep complaining about this sound forever and all I did was look under the car and there was a brake cable that had come loose and was rubbing his drivers side back tire. not sure if this helps but if you have done somthing to the suspension it might help to just look around the tires and drive shaft. but if it goes away when you hit the brakes check out all of the brake lines.

More than you wanted to Know
No, both front and rear always work when you depress the brake pedal Braking 101: What you may be thinking is that some folks test problems with the rear brakes by pulling the e-brake cable. When you pull the e-brake cable you are only braking the rear, but your rear brakes always work when you press the brake pedal. You have a wheel cylinder that is attached to the brake fluid line in the rear, same as the calipers in the front. When you press the brakes the fluid travels from the master cylinder, through a proportioning valve, and then to all 4 wheels. The calipers apply pressure between the rotors and the pads, while the wheel cylinders push outwards on the shoes and make contact with the drums. If you have a newer car, then you have calipers in the rear as well. Basically 70% of your braking is done with the front brakes, and 30% with the rear. Now for the Physics: Inertia, which is roughly mass and speed of the car traveling forward tends to stay in motion. Remember Object in motion tends to stay in motion......... The calipers or wheel cylinders press on the brakes and rotor or drum, which causes friction. Friction generates heat. The heat is disipated by the rotors, and your car slows and eventually stops. The slotted and grooved rotors disipate the heat quicker. Also larger rotors disipate the heat quicker. Heat is bad................. You can actually get the rotors and brakes so hot that the brakes do not work. I have had this experience, and it is not fun at all. Hope this helped
