Sagging Door
My 1988 GT drivers door has been sagging for a while now. I ordered new pins and bushings and plan to put them in when I get them. Should this fix the problem or is it common for the hinge to also need replacing?

That should fix it up man!
I suggest taking the doors and hinges off the car to do it. I will tell you they arent that fun. I had to cut my pins in half with a die grinder cause they were bent I guess. Anyhow they wouldnt knock out. |

just remember that the doors do unbolt from the frame completely. I dont know why but we have alot of bodymen out here that seem to think the hinges are welded on.

yep, 3 bolts per hinge, easy to get to if fender is off, and makes aligning the door alot easier

The hinges have some sealant on them that looks to the untrained eye like they are welded to the door post. The stock pins have to be cut out. I have a set of pins and bushings from 5.0 resto that I am not using if anyone needs them.

I checked the local stores and no luck. I found the pin and hinge for $13 on e-bay. My passenger door is fine so I should be alright with just the drivers door. Is it pretty tough getting the fender off?

You don't need to remove the fenders to install the pins. Cut out the old pins with a dremel (get alot of cut-off wheels). When you cut the pins cut them like you're chopping down a tree (so the cut looks like this <). Also when you cut the bottom pin, cut it as close to the bottom as you can. Because of the way the door curves it will be easier to get out that way. Once the pins are cut use a punch and a hammer to knock them out, replace the bushings put in the new pin and you're done. You Will want some one to help you with the door when the pins are out. Use a floor jack to help support the doors.
