Typically you shouldn't go thru the water box or do a big burnout with street tires because the water hangs in the tread when you pull up to the line and heat makes most street tires slick and greasy. BUT what Ryan is doing is working for him and judging by the numbers he is running with street tires I don't think anyone here has the authority to tell him how to run his car.

Thanks for all the advice on street tires, but I wasn't asking for any.
I already know what works for me and street tires. I've seen a 1.8 60 foot on 225 All season BFGs in the past. And doing a burnout in the water box always gives me better 60 foots times. I'd do a burnout not in the water box, but the track I go to preps the burnout area really well with track glue so it would be really hard on the trans and rear end to do a burn out without water. The real problem I've been having is getting this thing to hook up on 26 x 10.5 ET streets. At 2500 rpms they bog it and at 3000 rpms it lights them up like nothing. If I lower the tire pressure below 18 PSI they do not feel stable on the car at all and I have to get out of it by half track. I'm thinking its time for some 295 MT street radials

The stability issue is common with all slicks and ET Streets. It feels weird for your first few passes but you forget about it after that. Unless you have other issues happening with the chassis or rims or tires. Those tires need 11-12 psi to work. The radials will solve the stability issue though.

MT 270/65/15 ET Streets seem to be the cure for my traction problems, and they are totally stable at 130+ on 16PSI.

This is not the same. The car pulls back and forth under power switching from one tire to the other and this is not a minor rocking, it is bad. At 10 PSI, I almost crossed the center line in 2nd gear, shifted to third and eased into the throttle and it almost pulled across again. It was so bad that even the track announcer said something about it on the PA. The video isn't very clear, but I'll post it when I get home tonight. I pulled a few 1.6 60 foots, but I had to get out of it everytime because the car felt so unstable by 60-70 mph. Anyway, I am not sure if I am going to take this car to the track anymore, that is supposed to be what my 88 is for and it definitely tracks better and hooks up better. The 89 is currently for sale, but if I keep it much longer, I probably will just keep it the rest of the summer.

Strange. I wonder why that is. Do you think maybe it has to do with the stock traction lock? Is that what you meant by "switching from one tire to the other"? I've never run into a situation like that before but I don't think I've ever put as much power thru a stock traction lock as you are.

And back to the original topic, that's more than respectable on street tires, water box or not. Most guys would give up a left nut for those times with their street ride.

I thought it might be the track lock as well, but I just rebuilt it. I've run 119 mph with 1.50 60' times in my 88 with the exact same rebuild. And it tracks perfectly straight with street tires. Maybe the 10.5 tires are just not as stable (they also don't have tubes in them, whereas my 11.5s I run on my 88 have tubes). I really don't know, I was left scratchin my head at the track. I aired the tires up to 18 PSI and it tracked straight, but it spun the tires when I launched hard. So I just gave up and called it a day. My best ET was with the street tires because I was never able to put together a solid launch with a full WOT pass on the ET streets. Frustrating for sure. Should have knocked off 0.5 seconds or so on the quarter. I really wanted to try out the nitrous/blower combo though...

I don't think I could do a burnout in a 5sp without the water box at my track. Prolly just burn the clutch up or break the tranny. There is track glue all over the burnout area besides the water box. If you like breaking stuff, do a burnout with a five speed with your tires sitting in the track glue.
