Tranny Problem
88 mustang gt equipped with a t-5 transmission. At slow speeds, even moderate the gears shift fine (they are a little difficult to get into) But when i am all over the car shifting into second usually makes all kind of wicked noises and just pops out of it. I just put on the mgw short throw shifter but i wasn't really driving it before that, so i dont know if that is the problem. So second gear grinds, only on hard acceleration. What am i to do?

Does the shifter have adjustable stops? If so I'd make sure they are adjusted properly first but it sure does sound like you have some syncros going bad and possibly a input shaft bearing as well.

if it grinds going into gear, try this-put in the clutch to take it out of first-let the clutch back out while in neutral-press the clutch again to put it now into second.try this at different speeds, if the bouble clutching fixes the situation then you know there are syncro problems in the transmission.
