replacing clutch
How hard is it to replace the entire clutch in these 5.0s? What is the best clutch for the price? It is going to be around 280 to the wheels so the clutch doesn't need to be anything special.

I would go with a spec stage 2 or a king cobra.
it's not really that hard to swap out. |

Clutches are fairly easy to replace in these cars if you have some mechanical ability. I second HMUSN on the Clutch options.

easiest way to drop the tranny in these is to seperate the trans from the bell housing first, this makes it a lot easier to get to the top bell housing bolts
+1 for spec |

nope a real king cobra clutch is one of the best ones for the stock t-5 transmission it grabs great but allows just a little slip in the beginning which is what u want if u dont like having a broken transmissions. biggest killers of the t-5 is too hard of a clutch, bad shifter adjustment/no shifter adjustment and driver. too much power will kill it too but 9 times out of 10 its not a power issue

Like what? I used to run alot of King Cobra kits. My favorite set up used to be a King Cobra pressure plate and a Centerforce dual friction disk. I've never had any problems with them.

I used the King Cobra in my 01 Gt and never had any issues with it.
actually I prefer it over the spec I have in my 91 because it's a little stiffer IMO. could just be the transmission difference in the 91 though.. |

I have heard that they slip easily at lower hp levels, the spec st 2 is supposed to be able to handel alot more hp
If he is planning on staying at the 280 rwhp mark I would say to go with one I guess, they are pretty cheap But if he has plans for future modifications why not put in a better one?

Well I have 500 hp and 490 ftlbs of torque going through my king cobra clutch. It has never slipped on the street. With track tires at the track it has slipped 2 times out of about 15 runs (off the line, not after it is engaged), mostly due to me not dropping the hammer on it fast enough. I would say these clutches are perfect for any street car and good at the track up to about 400-500 hp. I think I at the limit of its usefulness at the track.
