Battery Loss

I just installed a underdrive pulley kit. after i get the car running it is not charging. is there a certain rpm i need to run at to get it to charge. i know there is no drain on the battery. the car sat for a week and it starteds right up this morning. but the volts are dropping consiberdly and the car started to run hotter than normal ,like the water pump wasent turning fast enough. any input will be appreciated. i am thinking either the alternator shot or the pulleys are not doing there job. im going to put my stock pulleys on snd see if that fixes it

hey man i have had the same problem. At first my car wouldnt turn over, but that was because my battery was dead. I bought a new battery and now my car's amps drop way low and the car dies sometimes. I have been told to get a 130 amp alternator out of a Taurus or a new 130 amp.

i dont even know what that is man. I dont know much about engines yet... Maybe there arent enough amps in the alternator to keep it going. Is it just a stock alternator? I am going with the 130 amp anyway because i am putting on my electric fan in a few weeks

Most people don't install the UD pulley on the Alt. it doesn't charge all that good with the smaller pulley.
If the Alt. tested good then the regulator is good.
Check the wiring good and install the old pulley back on the Alt.
If you still have nothing check the fusible link by the soleniod.

i put the old pully back on no difference. when i tested the alternator this morning it showed 1187 on the volt meter. i assumed it was bad so i took it to autozone and had it tested it was bad. i put the new alternator on and it tested at 1185. the onlt things i have changed is the intake, removed the ac unit moved my tensioner as a result of the ac being removed and also removed the factory intrument cluster and put in a custom panel with autometer gauges, but it is not charging. i looked at the fusible link and nothing looks out of order there, i dont know where to go next

im at the end of the line. i replaced the alternator, put the stock pulleys back on, checked to make sure all connections were made. is there a possability that since i took out the factory instrument cluster and went with a custom one that this alternator just isnt big enough

thanks to everyone who posted replies to my thread. i figured it out finally, when i removed the factory insturment panel and replaced with my custom panel with auto meter gauges i didnt reuse the factory harnesses of course, one of those wires supplies voltage to your regulator if you un plug the harnesses that wire has no power. i have since fixed it and my alternator is now charging at a lovely 14.45. thanks again
