belt sizing...
Hello,
I just ordered a ac delete kit (the one that makes the car setup as if there never had AC). How ever I was wondering when i put this all on what size belt should i use I DO NOT have the smog pump I DO have an under drive pulley on the crank only I DO NOT have AC I have never measured my own belt so I'm not sure if i will do it right. so if you guys have some steps or perhaps someone has the size already that would be great. Thanks, Steve L. |

take a string and run it thru the belt route.
now take string to parts store and match to belt.

if you're moving the power steering up to where the a/c was, it's a 70.5" that's what mine is, with that setup. but id measure it to be sure.

Is there any trick to compensate for the tensioner? That is the part that I'm worried about. I don't want to put to much pressure on it.

I finally had some time to get to the store to pick up the belt. i started with what we tought should be a "730k6" basically 73". This unfortuantly was just a little to long (I could slide this onto the tensioner without compressing it) So when i got back i measured the pullies with a piece of edging twine, the stuff you use in weed wackers (all i had haha). the string measured about 71.5"...
As im writing this something suddenly doesn't make sense... the string is 71.5" without the tensioner compressed so the belt should be shorter compensate. in the end i bought a "715k6" and it fits. I think i see now... i just took a look at the car again. I did buy the 71.5" Belt how ever when i took the measure ment the twine must have got in the groves giving me just enough trim of the total length to make it small enough. Basically the tensioner is still in its usable range however it is a little close to being not compressed at all which makes me uneasy. it works for now but i think i will get the 705k6 when i go back to the store. This guy keeps telling me it will be "Way" to short. It's funny because im the one looking at it! In Summation i did happen to find that i have a UDP for the crank http://images.latemodelrestoration.c...asp-520100.jpg I should have just taken Squints word on this. DOH! 705k6 (70.5") FTW! Thanks everyone, Steve L. |
