![]() You may get a hundred or so miles before anything in the engine compartment or attached to the firewall melts and deforms. Carry a fire extinguisher with you as well and make sure you know how to use it.

Plus with just shorties you're asking for warped valves.

isn't the rule of thumb that you have to have atleast 14" of piping to be safe?
hey that sounded kinda sexy.

Ok, I don't beleive the warped valve mess. I am so tired of people making stuff up. I've ran open header for over a year (including my last stang and focus) and never blew nothing up, never burned a valve, never popped nothing.
Why do people make up so much mess. No Back pressure is sometimes a goof thing as the big dogs at the track run open header. The more compression, the more power. Now I have moroso race mufflers on mine and makes no difference other than keeping the cops off of me when I show them my 50 state legal papers from then. My cats are pretty much open.

youre one of the lucky ones then, plus it helps when youre living down south and the air is at a more constant temperature. up here in maine it hits 100s during the day and gets to the low 50s at night, and when you run open headers at night, theres a chance cold air can get in there and mess your valves up. ive seen both cracked and warped valves on open header cars. we only run 1 of our dumptrucks during the day because it doesnt even have headers

something nobody's mentioned...open shorties = no O2 sensors
so your car will run in limp mode all the time at part throttle...that'd be hella cool ![]() ![]() ![]()
