Race Gas and Stock motor?

Well guys I was wondering is it safe to run 110 octane race gas in a stock 1989 GT? Long story short i have a 55 gallon drum of race gas left in the garage because i hurt the motor in my race car, and it is down for the year. I hate to waste all the gas, so i was wondering if i could just put it in the 5.0 and put it to good use?

Does the 110 have lead in it? As long as the lead is not a problem for your engine, you could always mix it with 87 to give it more kick.

Safe yes. Worthwhile no. The additional octane will cost you a few horsepower since the engine doesn't need it but it won't hurt anything. If you run it for months on end the lead can possibly due damage to the oxygen sensors if so equipped.

No, the only thing high octane fuel does is burn slower. Octane is the fuels ability to resist detonation and nothing more. It doesn't add horsepower but will cost you horsepower if you don't need the additional octane.

With a higher compression you need a slower buring fuel (higher octane) to resist detonation.
