Turbo Charge

I am looking at making a junkyard/turbo kit and I am still a little confused as far as the exhaust . is it a compleaty closed system or does the exhaust evntly make its way out of the car other than the wastegate and blowoff valve I have seen a few pick of it installed on a engine out of the car

basically this is how it works the exhaust powers the turbo which causes the turbine wheel to spin and sending forced air through the pipes through the intercooler which cools the air from the turbo to the intake and forces it into the engine.a wastegate is kinda like a bov but it stops boost from creeping up because you dont want to be doing 50 and then start accelerating to 100 with out moving your foot and a bov is used to let out excessive air that is not needed because you dont want to much air going in the motor because that will lead you to a rebuild on the motor and give you wierd engine sounds like a rod knock
