Stock 5.0 HP Rating

What is the HP rating for the stock bottom end? What can it handle?

that is with street tires. if you are making 600 hp on street tires nothing will hook so it should be less stressful on drivetrain slicks are a whole new ballgame

Well i'm not sure what HP i'm at, i have a 90lx i run on average 12.5 in 1/4 mile, i have a 6 point cage, and frame ties, and i also have poly motor and tranny mounts. I want to put a 100 shot wet kit on and i want to make sure the bottom end will hold up to her part of the deal. The bottom end has 102k and has not been rebuilt.

my mistake (speed reader.) in that case 400hp but dont take my word for it. most articals say you find your weak links when you pass 300 hp. but then again they talk more about transmisson drive shaft and rearend.

Its not how much the bottom end can handle, its how much the block can handle. Roll the dice. A good friend of mine is making 555hp at the wheels with a stock bottom end. I know others that have split the block at 400rwhp. As long as the tune is conservative and you don't spin it too high they run for a while.

Well that's cool, i had a guy that was trying to tell me if i spray my car with anything over 75 that i would blow my engine. I told him he was nuts but then it made me curious to know how much the 302 can handle. Next spring i want to get the car tuned so i guess i'll find out then what kind of HP and TQ i'm putting out! I don't think i'm much over 325-350

I've made over 600hp at the wheels on nitrous (200hp jets) with a 347 in a production block. It is not recommended but is possible with good machine work and a safe tune.
