Embaress people? where did that come from, darrell is one of the few guys on this board that knows his shit.

First off, I'm not your bro. Secondly, you are reading into things too much. I'm not sure how you think I was trying to embarras you. When you are wrong and someone corrects you, it doesn't mean they are trying to embarras you. It means you are wrong.

As for your 331 issues, the X heads and B303 cam are choking it. 268hp out of that engine is a joke. You can make over 300rwhp with a set of Trick Flow heads, Trick Flow cam and Trick Flow intake on a stock engine. There are people that are making 280+rwhp with all factory parts (P heads, Explorer intake, etc.) So just because your family member has a way underpowered 331 doesn't mean that other people are going to make less horsepower because they have a 302.

are you.... my bro, darrell?

Im hoping to make around 300rwhp with a nicely ported set of gt40p's, a ported explorer intake, and a decent cam.

first off ill state that im a noob to the 5.0 scene. I aqm a mod motor guy.

with that out of the way. the guy should easily make the hp Darrell stated. I also think it would help to get a set of long tube headers. no sence in getting all that air in if you can't get it out. That will also help with the scavenging effect.

just my .02 cants.

With the heads you have I'd look at something like the Comp Cams 35-518-8 cam. The specs are 224/232 duration at .050 .555/.565 lift and 112 lobe separation. That will take more advantage of the good flowing heads you have.

PTV clearance won't be an issue with that cam and stock pistons?

Probably not. I've used the TFS 51402001 cam in many stock short block 5 liters and it has similar specs to the Comp cam I listed. The Twisted Wedge heads offer a bit more valve clearance than a conventional head due to the valve placement. Either way I'd check piston to valve clearance regardless of what cam I used.
