I guess the first thing is can you locate a part #. Second thing is what ignition control are you using. Most of the MSD distributors only work properly with MSD control modules.

Can you take a picture of the distributor and ignition box? Are you running a MSD box also?

I have no idea what a 1,600 is. I have several of the MSD-8352, MSD-8379, MSD-85805, MSD-85842 and a few of the MSD-8382. Try to find a part number that resembles one of these and you will probably get more help than you need.

http://www.msdignition.com/pdf/6%20series/6series.pdf Depending on your tach, you may need an adapter. I'm using one on a 6AL with an Auto Gauge tach.

That one doesn't have an output tach terminal? I always use a spade connector to the after market tach's of course along with the power/ground wire to the proper sources.

If you are trying to wire it into the factory tach then I can give ya the wire color that feeds the factory tach. Or you can do it the right/easy way and get the adapter. I do know that it is in the harness on the drivers side crammed in the corner closest to the wiper motor. I have done this several times but can't remember the color of the wires.

so you are saying just tie the tach pulse wire into the msd unit at the tach output terminal with a spade connector? Yes i would like to use the factory tach for this application. After looking at the different set-ups, i guess the guy who installed it did it properly, I just have no idea why the white wire is not to be used.

Did you look at the wiring instructions in the link I posted in my last post. It tells you why the white wire is not used.
