idle problem.

Hey, my 5.0 has an idle problem, she will idle right around 1k rpms when cold, which.. i wish it would be at like 750 because it sounds a lot better (e cam) at low lopey rpms. Before i do heads and an intake manifold i want it to idle right, when the car warms up she idles sometimes at 1300 rpms. always over 1200, sometimes higher than 1300. it sometimes sticks to 1600 for a few seconds, and drops to like 1300 like i said. So this is gay and is a problem and i want my car to idle at 750 like it should so tell me the answer or else.

Might need to clean the IAC or replace it. I know on my stang I had to put a spacer in between the TB and IAC that had set screws in it to adjust idle air flow. Start w/ cleanin it though and then maybe replace it if it down't work.

Good advice. ^^

Also, check to make sure your TB isnt partially stuck open. Check your linkage and inspect the TB to make sure everything is working order.

Any time a ford has idle problems I always go to the Idle Air Controller (as has already been said). A good cleaning will probably take care of your issues.
