Looking to get a Fox-body.....

So, I've been looking to get myself a 5.0l Fox-body Mustang. What should I look for? Theres one here in my area that is in incredible shape, but will need an overhaul, as it has 220k. He wants $2500. But, being 17, im looking for something with a little more life. What exactly should I be looking for? I'm not sure exactly what to ask, but I figured maybe you guys would have some pointers for a noob. I almost traded my '85 Bronco for this beautiful '86 Fastback with the 3.8, but sadly, it needed a $900 motor job. And yes, I'm still looking to trade off the Bronco......just throwing that out there lol.

I would buy a little more solid of a car. save your money and buy a good car the first time around. being 17 and having to pour money into your car just to be able to get back and forth is no fun.
It's only fun when your car is already to go, you have a daily driver incase you break shit, and you just feel like throwing money at it.

according to me the only ones you can afford are 4 bangers and pproject cars.. for $1500 that's true. now add the price of the sale of your truck into your $1500 and you can get a nicer car.

im thinking around $2500 would be my top dollar. i've looked all over craigslist, and locally, and the only ones i can find are ones that need work.
and yes, the 2500 is including the sell price of my truck.

I am gonna say I totally agree with HMUSN, hold out man, save up a couple more grand.... Also check out Ebay, I know it's 50/50 on whether or not your gonna get a good car or a bad one. But hey you can find some really nice cars and get em hella cheap. Take a look at mine in my signature, $3200 dollars for a 84 GT350 that only has 46000 on this engine rebuild, have to say I got a deal on this one....

If it were me, I would check out that LX a little more. It looks like a solid car and if it runs fine I would buy it. It sounds like it is a one owner car. The 302 can be a tough engine to wear out when well maintained, and looking at this car, it has been well taken care of. See if he'll take $1300 in cash. Then when you sell the Bronco you could have it rebuilt. If you had to you could just drive it as it is and try not to dog it then when you save a little money take a weekend and rebuild the engine. This is assuming it runs well now. If you need to, have someone who knows cars go look at it with you. I can tell you that around here, a notch in that shape would not last long at $1500.

even when the 302s arent maintained at all, they still are hard to kill

had 265,000 on the original block, oil used to be down 4 quarts haha. i hated that motor but it ran up untill the day we pulled it and put a 351 in its place

im also 17 and was in this situation i was told, like these guys said, just wait it out and the deal will come. with a well paying job just hold out a little longer and save your pennies. youre gonna want the 5.0 already in it cause you wont like the 4 cyl and will want to swap later. save up and im sure one will roll along thats just right. with that price range i know down here you can find one with just over 100k strong running with bolt ons already and in decent shape for about 2500-3000. if you wait it out and save it will come, it always works out that way. the worst feeling is buying the wrong one and see the right one too late.

I thought that first car was a pretty sweet deal personally. A clean notch for $1500 and it runs...I would run, not walk to that guys house with $1500 in hand.

Those were my thoughts exactly. If the car was local it would be in my driveway already.

yeah....someone bought it already...... but there are a few Gt's, so i dont know. i suppose having my job will help out. plus i dont really need much cash. im good at spening as little as possible lol. if i had the job way back when i got that '86 3.8, i would have just swapped. i would have had the money, or just buy a new six.....
