engine stall
Alright couple of questions from topics now haunting me.
1984 5.0 , may not be origonal, weiland intake with holley. When she is hot, it will stall at every stop sign, however idels great when finally pulling back into the driveway. Also when hot she is a bitch to start, just barely turns over or may not at all. if i give her a few minutes she flys right over no prob. I had a couple people say the started is shot due to the long tube headers melting the seloniod. any sugestions on these items |

sounds like the carb needs to b adjusted or the choke is half ways shut and doesnt open when its warm and yes the long tube headers make it hard to start when its warm but thats normal, header wrap helps keep the starter cool and on ur car the selinoid is on the fender well not the starter

true true the selinoid is on the wall. makeing me think that the starter is nearing its life end. Actually the choke is wide open, and runs great just for some reasons only when she is hot, it stalls at stops.

you can always buy a starter sleave or water its called to protect it from your long tube headers. i would both wrap my headers and put a sleave on my starter if i had LT's

it idles at around 900, for some reason last night when i took it out it was acting up yet in another way. When it was hot I would be in low rpm at any given gear and she would want to start jack-rabbiting all over the place, but runs fine when i get on the gas. The plugs were heavy coated black char.

Which model Holley? Check float levels first. What fuel pump are you using? Fuel lines running close to headers/exhaust?

stock pump on the engine, the line is clear from any heat source. it was running fine and just started this crap the other day. i pulled the plugs and there was a heavy build up of black sut on them. Not wet!

Which model Holley? Typically if you have not screwed with the carb, it wouldn't go south on you instantly. Vacuum leak is a possibility. Change the plugs, if the cap and wires are older, change them as well. Is this a 4150 or a vac sec carb?

i am not positiveon the size or cfm of the carb but it is a vac secondary . the plugs look brand new except for the spalling on them. I have not touched the carb nor know sweet f.a. about holleys. aperently there is supposed to be a view port to see the level in the bowls to set the float levels

Brass screw plugs on the side of the float bowls. Fuel should be right at the bottom of the holes.
