what fluid for t5 and how much?

swapping a t5 that is completely toasted out of my 88 daily driven hatch with another known or supposely good t5 and wasn't sure what kind of lube is best to run in them or how much.. im thinking it's 2 or 2.5 quarts but would like to know for sure and your opinions on what type of fluid to run in it.

thinking royal purple or synchromesh

Well,i run the newer, weaker t-5 not world class but some lucas tansmission fix mixed in with synthetic really seemed to help.I took this tip off a performance shop that does that on all their higher powered stangs so it sounded good to me.Even called lucas and there is no mix problem at all.

I have always felt that the standard fluids did'nt have enough wieght to it for the hotter weather and to hang on the gearing a little better.

I used 12oz. mixed in a 2.8 qt capacity recommended by lucas as the proportionate amount for my tranny capacity. It's pretty thick stuff.

Dextron-Mercon ATF is what's recommended by Ford, unless you want some real nice stuff the Dex stuff will work fine. Buy 3 quarts, remove the plug in the side of the tranny (not the drain plug...) and just fill it until it starts dripping out of the hole. It takes just under 3 quarts.
