Mac Exhaust Tail pipe clearance to upper control arm problem

Installed a MAC7995 exhaust on my 83 convertible but no matter how I adjust the muffler and tail pipe, it either hits the frame or rubs the upper control arm. I've bashed the pipe as much as I want to, which has helped.

It seems to hit the bent lip of the control arm, do the after market upper control arms give better clearance for the exhaust, since it looks like they don't have this lip?

Thanks

you might have to go with dumps if its that bad, but you could probably get a shop to bend it how you need it

get rid of the upper control arms and get a pan hand bar and some sub frame connectors

I was hoping not to have to chop the pipe, and re weld it. Was looking at suspension upgrades anyways, may try that first . Looking at the on line control arms that extra 3/8" is all I need.

Where does the Pan Hard rod connect to? I only remember seeing them on old LTD's if I am thinking of the same part?

Thanks

Dude ... I feel your pain. I have a MAC exhaust system and every time I go over a bump I hear this loud Clank. My car is lowered with Eibach Sportsline and has Steeda Upper and lower control arms. I have tried many things with out success.
My next attempt with be to move my fuel lines so I can raise my pipes a little higher.

I have steel upper control arms which are wider then the Aluminum lowers. ( I didn't have enough money for aluminum uppers.

Best of luck ..... I will keep following this post perhaps we will both find an answer.

I tried raising the mufflers but it just moves it into the frame rail more, the bend of the tubes (2.5") just seems to not be enough. I can make it miss everything, but the hangers slip a little in the rubber isolator and after a few good bumps it's hitting again. May need to weld some stopper on the muffler/pipe hangers to set it for good. ARGHHH!

take it to an exhaust shop. im sure they can figure it out so it wont hit anything. back in the day i had problems with fitment of my Mac Shorty headers and the mac H pipe. took some Fab work for it to be right.

take it to someone and see what they say

I have a Flow Master exhaust and it does not hit with my aftermarket Dugan arms. It allowed me to adjust out the clanking noise. You are like the 10th person that said in this forum and others that had trouble with MAC exhausts. I dont know if they are bent a little different than MAC or if its the brand of arms they are runnin.....sucks man....
