timing


ok what is the timing set at for an 84 5.0 carbed. the dude had it so advanced it would barely turn over.

Start at 12* and adjust from there for performance (high octane fuels)

for a carb you just unplug the vacuum advance correct.

Correct. Plug the hose so you don't have a vacuum leak.

funny there is crap for power until i set it to around 16 to 18, there is no detenation and the starter has no problems turning here over. could there some cam swap happening here?

12* is just the starting point, adjust up from there although 18* seems a bit extreme. Just be careful of detenation.

idles fine, I set her at 15 and no probs now. bit more aggresive and no detenation
