Loose/ Broken tie-rod??

Amongst bringing my car out of the impound i was going down the highway and i heard this "tink" sound. Very shortly after that a lot of shaking started to occur. vibration and noise coming from the front wheel area. I heard mostly on my side (the driver) side. I havent got deep enough to check stuff, but what could that possibly be...? tie rod,... steering rack or something? when i make a turn the noise/binding gets louder.. I need some help!!
