i'm ready for nitrous

i have made up my mind about getting nitrous, and i have money in hand. all i need now is help buying all the right shit. i've pretty much made up my mind that i want to go with NOS brand, since i know a couple of people who run NOS and love it.

this is the kit i'm looking at. i'd like to start with a 75 shot, then work my way up to a 100 shot, then eventually a 150 shot. since this kit doesn't come with 150hp jets, what should i look for when i get ready to go with a bigger shot? would anything else engine wise need to be upgraded? spark plugs? timing?

i want to go ahead and bite the bullet and buy all the safety shit too, like window switch, purge, bottle pressure gauge, and bottle heater. i know i'll probably need a fuel pump too, but what about injectors?

what's the difference in -4 AN and -6 AN? how do i know whether i'm supposed to get a -4 AN purge valve kit or -6 AN purge valve kit?

how does this window switch look for the setup i'll be running? or should i get the window switch that is already programmed for a 3,000RPM activation and 6,000 deactivation?

i'll probably get one of these too

and one of these. will it get too hot if i leave it on, or can i just turn it on ahead of time, and leave it on? i don't want to turn it on to warm the bottle, then turn it off when it gets to hot, and have to keep monitoring the temperature

one of these

to go with one of these

^what would i need to do to be able to mount those inside the car? it says i can mount them on the bottle or in front of the nitrous solenoid, but i want to be able to see the guages while i'm driving

i know i'm probably forgetting some things, so add anything else i might need

At the 150 mark all you need is a fuel pump. With a wet kit, you'll never need bigger injectors.

for a 150 shot get a 255 pump , auto lite 24 sparkplugs , run premium gas and retard the timing according to the instructions

Ignition? You'll be needing it for a 150 shot.

-6 an = 3/8" inside diameter
-4 an = 1/2" inside diameter

-4an is enough for 300 hp worth of nitrous...you do not need any -6AN nitrous line.

ok, now i'm looking at dual stage kits.. how exactly do they work? 75 shot in first gear, 100 shot in second, and 150 shot in third? this is the kit i'm looking at in particular:

Nitrous Oxide Systems (NOS) 05115-IINOS - NOS EFI Nitrous Oxide Systems - summitracing.com

it includes a fuel pump too..

now this next question is a little confusing so bare with me..

is there any way that i could set it up so that it sprayed like a 100 shot in every gear, then later change it to 75 in first, 100 in second, and 150 in third if i wanted to, or will it always be a permanent dual stage setup? if i could do that, then that would keep me from having to buy 150 shot jets for the single stage kit i posted in my first post when i got tired of the 100 shot jets

when you say ignition, you mean everything? coil, distributor, and box?

That is not a dual stage kit. The first kit you listed is a misprint. The 05115 is only 75hp and the 05115-ii is 75-150hp. Both kits use -4 line. The difference between the kits is jetting and the inline fuel pump. You will still need a bigger intank fuel pump and some good plug wires. Gap the plugs at .035. One heat range colder wouldn't hurt. No need for fancy ignitions or injectors unless your engine makes enough horsepower naturally aspirated to require bigger injectors. Bigger injectors won't hurt though but you will have to tune accordingly. The kit is designed around stock injectors. Bigger injectors require slightly different jetting with that kit. A window switch is helpful but not necessary. The blow down kit is required if the bottle is mounted inside the car. The bottle heater is nice but not necessary in a hatch back car unless you are racing on a cool night. I've had to put layers of blankets over my bottles in my hatchback cars to keep the bottle pressure down. The back window is like a magnifying glass when the sun is beating on it. If you do use a heater, do not leave the bottle heater on without monitoring bottle pressure or the burst disc will rupture and empty your bottle. The fuel pressure gauge you listed only goes to 15psi. You will need an EFI gauge that goes to 100psi. A pressure gauge on the bottle is a nice idea too. There is really no need to see it when you are driving. You won't be looking at it anyway. Pressure will change when the system turns on and when you purge. Just check your pressure before you pull up to the line and you'll be fine.

hell yeah, this is exactly the kind of response i was waiting for. thanks dude.

so let me just get this straight one more time - is the 05115-II kit dual stage or not? it does come with 75, 100, and 150hp jets, correct?

also, are ford racing spark plug wires "good" wires?

and FYI - my car has an AOD, so i figured it might be a good idea to get a window switch

No it is not a dual stage kit. The 05115 is the stage one kit and the 05115-ii is the stage two kit.......like an upgraded version of the base kit. Yes it comes with 75,100 and 150hp jets.

Ford Racing wires suck. Go with MSD 8.5s or Accel 300+.

what do you think about a beginner to nitrous going with the 05115-II kit?

With a 150 shot, I blew the spark out at 3500 rpms with plugs gapped at 0.030" using the stock coil and MSD box. I would at least recommend a coil upgrade to get the most out of your nitrous kit. The stock coil is really at its limit at 300 hp flywheel and that is if it is in like new condition. The stock dizzy is good for 600+hp, you can always add a MSD box at any time.

Do you think its possible that you had bad wires? The only reason I ask that is because I've used alot of stock coils with that kit and 150hp. I've used them naturally aspirated too. The Cobra in my garage was using a stock coil on a 347 that makes over 400hp to the tire. My old blue turd went 11.50s with a stock coil. I agree that a coil upgrade is an inexpensive piece of mind but I've never had any issues with a stock coil on mild applications.

i guess i'll be safe and spend the few extra dollars on a coil then. what are the difference in these two, and which one would be better suited for me?
