Budget upgrade advice.

1990 Mustang GT convertible, 110,000 miles. Stock minus the header, 2.5" Exhaust & Hypertech Chip.

Keep in mind when making suggestions that other then tranny work my best friedn is a full-time mechanic and we will be doing the work in my garage.

I am looking to do the following in the order listed, even though I am doing the work ourselves, we are still on sort of a budget.

My goal is to turn my mustang into a fun and fast daily driver that can be taken to the strip occasionally to make some runs.

I am hoping to keep the stock auto and get it up to between 300-350 RHP.

1. Chassis Stiffining
2. Cold air intake
3. Rear Gears(4.10)
4. Shift kit, not really sure what i should be looking for.
5. Heads, intake, cams, injectors and throttle body.

I am hoping to be able to get all this done for under $3500 this year of we are doing the work ourselves.

Any recommendations on components would be great.

Thanks,
Matt

thats a damn good list and should get you in your wanted power range.

id do gears first to make the best use out of the power you already have. subframe connectors should be one of the first things on your list too, followed by the HCI combo

you should have money left over depending on the h/c/i combo you go with

talk to darrel about good h/c/i combos for a n/a car

1. UPR stuff is good... upper and lower adj control arms, Anti-Roll Bar, Subframe connectors and some shocks and struts...

2. CAI - do it.

3. 4.10 gears are very good for street/strip (I run 3.73)

4. auto or manual tranny?

5. H/C/I - AFR 165 or 185's, Victor jr, I say custom cam but there probably is an OTS cam that will work decent.

injectors - yes

TB & MAF - yes... make sure the maf you get is calibrated for the injectors u have

1. Subframe connectors and lower control arms.
2. Shift kit
3. $2,700 B&G turbo kit
4. injectors and fuel pump and MAF.

Will brush 400rwhp and have traction issues even with stock gears.

This is what i am thinking.

Strut support
4 point k member
sub frame connectors

Cold air intake

4.10 gears

Top end kit. going to buy one from Late model resto. (Holley, Edelbrock or Ford Racing).
24lb injectors

That is all I will be able to do this year.

dont do the ford racing kit, its crap for a lot of money compared to the other stuff. Aluminum Air Flow Research 185cc heads, holley systemax intake manifold and DEFINITELY custom grind a cam, from somebody good. With that you will definitely be in the low 300 rwhp range.

But honestly, i woud just do a ford stroker 331 or 347 stroker and slap the hci and supporting mods on. In the long run instead of having spent a lot of money and a low 300rwhp car you will have spent a little more than that and around 400rwhp with a stroker.

Look for used heads and intake. There is alot of money to be saved here. Used driveshafts, injectors, mass air meters and throttle bodies are out there too.

I say forget the CAI - put a K&N panel filter in the stock set up and spend that money somewhere else for now, like a 94-95 70mm MAF which wasn't on your list at all.

Hey, if you do that do you use the sn95 sensor or the fox sensor? Is there a diffrence in the actual sensor?

You'll have both, try them out, but I've seen the 94-95 sensor used with no problems.
