All this talk about Explorer Heads and Intakes. What years should I be looking for?

96-01 for the intake and 96-early 97 for GT40 heads and mid 97 to 01 for the GT40P heads. FYI, I know for a fact you can go 12.8s with GT40P heads, Explorer intake, 3.55 gears and 26x8.5 slicks with no other modifications......even a stock shifter. Here is a video ![]()

How much can I get explorer GT40 heads for, from the junkyard? What modifications, besides the headers will I need to make? I already have an ford explorer 65mm throttle body.

I'm planning to also install 1.7 roller rockers on my stock 5.0. For now, my next modification will be the PA street/strip valvebody to quicken the shifts and then the 373 gears.

Stock rockers on Explorers are 1.6. The Cobras had 1.7.
