Head questions on a sad day
Today is a day of mixed feelings for me. I sold my '79 Capri about 2 hrs ago. It was a good deal for me and I got some parts as a part of the deal. But being that this was the car that inspired my love for the Mustang that replaced it in my driveway, I am a little sad to see her go.
Anyways, as part of the trade I got an Edelbrock RPM II Air Gap manifold and 750 cfm carb I will be putting up on Ebay seeing as I no longer have a carburated car. I also got a set of TFS 205cc aluminum heads with Ford SVO 1.6 rockers. They will be going in the Mustang along with my other build up parts as soon as I come across a little beater car to drive back and forth to work. My question is this: Are the heads too much for my 331? They will be going on with a TFS Track Heat upper/lower as well as an as of yet undetermined cam. I will also be doing other upgrades like a tb and injectors/maf, etc. Also, this car is my daily right now. Let's say I had to drive it for a while with this combo until I saved enough for a work car. How bad would these heads kill my economy? I run an E cam now but I'm not going to jump up too far from there. Thanx In remembrance:

I hope not. If they will work it just saved me having to buy a pair. Been looking at 185s.

Sweet. I'm hoping that with the right cam I might be able to get close to 400hp. Pretty good for running all motor. My next step will be a 351W based build up. This stuff should hold me for a while though.

BTW I went ahead and put the Cobra MAF in the LX for now and noticed a bit of a difference. Better low end throttle response. |

I know, I decided to just try it and see what happened and it made an improvement from what I can tell, kinda smoothed it out in the lower rpms. I got it off ebay, maybe the guy put the plug off a stock sensor in it? It works though. Of course I only drove it about 4 miles with it in so far (just put it in this afternoon) so maybe it will start to run crappy with more driving.

That's what I figured. Anything is better than the factory one that was in there. It'll do until I throw the C&L and bigger injectors in anyways.

Yes, you should allways measure your pushrod length. get the tool, adjust it so that the rocker sweeps across the centerline of the valve tip. measure, and order the correct size. This is the only way to do it. It's not worth taking that risk. |
