Could possibly be improperly shimmed and the bendix is just getting stuck.

I would get a test light on there and see if it is an electrical problem or a mechanical one. If you still see 12v out of the solenoid when it is sticking, then its an electrical problem somewhere down the starter circuit. If not, then its shimmed wrong or just a faulty starter.

I'm hoping that's all it is... it's just wierd that it started doing it the same time I hooked up a custom push button starter switch...hmm... however the switch has a light in it to tell when the actual start circuit is complete (when the car is turning over it lights up) and it goes out as soon as you release the button so the button isn't sticking.

Could be a residual 12v still going into the circuit. The light circuit in the actual switch could definitely cause this. When i say residual 12v I mean something like 6v or so, could be 10v could be 5v. Not enough to actually turn the solenoid on, but enough to keep it on after it was triggered by the full 12v. Check the output of it with a multimeter and see what it does when it sticks. A relay should fix that, if that is the problem.

yea... I went through the original starter circuit in the car... I think I may just make a whole new circuit with a relay and be done with it.
