What is the power band like on the 90 5.0s?
My buddy got one a months or so ago and says peak power is at 4500rpm, which I think is BS, cuz thats way low. Anyone have dyno charts of stock, or mostly stock 5.0s?

I don't have any stock charts around but I'd say it is even lower than 4500. The torque in a stock 5.0 from a Mustang would be great match in a truck
![]() The average torque and HP from the 5.0 is good and better then the "peak" numbers would lead to to believe.

i might be mistaken but I would assume you shift just as your power starts decreasing because the rate of acceleration changes to a slower rate as the power drops... so you wouldnt want to run it too far past the peak power rpm... after you shift you go back to raisng the rpms... so if you keep the rpms up high it would cause a slower elapsed time

I always thought it was best to shift so the you have the most average power, in this case shifting at 5 grand would keep you the most power.

In my opinon you shift really high in first like 5,800-6000 like 5300 in second and like 4800-5000 in the higher gears. From my exp at the track this worked best for my stock 5.0

shift points are determined by the modifications on a car...Ive never ran a bone stock 5.0 so i couldnt tell you from experience how to get the best e.t.

trail and error.....i think how you shift...when you shift...and the condition of your motor should change it for every car / driver

If you're running stock key components, heads, cam, rockers, intakes ect. Your shift point should be between 4500 to 4700. Around 4800 the valves start to float. Obviously, if you are spinning, wait to get traction then see where you're at. Try going to the track and shift at different rpms, see what works best w/ your car. If you don't mind spending the money or a shop has a cheap dyno day, see where your peak hp is.
