88' GT Speedo' Question. Plus Another Gauge Question.

The 88' I am buying has a speedo that only goes to 85mph. I was planning on getting an aftermarket gauge. I was told they are mechanical, and do not use a speed sensor. Anyone have any info, or experience with this?

Plus I was also thinking about getting a fuel gauge. Does the 88' use a standard fuel sender unit, that a is 0-90ohm (think that is what it they are) sender?

You can get a 140 speedo from an '89-93 mustang that will fit right into your dash without no problems.
I don't know your fuel gauge question though.

If you get an after market speedo make sure it is for mustangs from 87-89 not 90-03 these are different in design. CJPonyparts.com sells a 140mph speedo for your applictaion. I have one and it was great to replace the wimpy 85mph. They come ready to roll

TY, I like that kit they have. Only $50 too. But I will be converting my car to carburetion. So I dunno which Sensors will still work with out the EFI set-up. I will just have to wait and see.

Cobraetti is correct, make sure you get the one for that year model. Motorsport use to make a 160 mph gauge. Is your fuel gauge going inside or outside? I used braided line and tee off the shrader valve. I was using NOS hence the tee fitting. If going inside, you will need a separator before running your line inside the car. Def. don't want gas in there.

Make sure your not just buying the sticker that says 140 on it. I couldnt find out why my speed was off so bad. Turns out mine came with the 85 mph and the guy that owned it before me just put the 140mph insert in. In my car 140 is about 85 mph, says the cop lol

i just got a ford motorsports 160 after i got a 140 from the junkyard and my car came with an 85 what u can do to make sure it is a real gauge and not just a sticker is put your drill on high on the back of your 85 mph and spin it in reverse then put it up to the 140 and see if it is the same withen a few mph of eachother...mine read 60-65 the 85 and the 160 were dead on the 140 was 5 mph off
