i agree on gears but dont go with a 4.10 unless your automatic or your gonna be chasing down times at the track oftan.

Chances are it will blow away your buddies Camaro the way it sits. Is your Mustang a 5 speed? A set of 3.73 or 4.10 gears will make a big difference in acceleration. Removing the factory air silencer is worth about 5hp. It might be removed already but if its not it will be on the fender side of the air box. If it has been removed there is a big oval hole in the fenderwell. If it hasn't been removed there will be a plastic silencer with about a 2 inch round hole on it. Advance the timing to 14-16 degrees. Make sure you remove the spout when you set the timing. Those few modifications will make your car feel like a new animal.

Yeah but the only thing most "old camaro owners" are sporting is a mullet and rotten teeth.

Yeah, the "fastest thing on earth" goes along with the Camaro. I had a guy in high school with a stock 350 78 Camaro tell me that his car is the fastest car in town and it does 180 mph. I laughed to myself and asked him if he wanted to race my 65 Mustang that had a 351W. He laughed at me and told me I had no chance. We raced and after about 300 feet I lost sight of him in my rearview mirror.

There are many options for heads and cams. TFS Twisted Wedge heads, AFR and Canfield all make good heads. AFM, Comp Cams and Trick Flow make decent off the shelf cams. 350+ horsepower is pretty easy to come by with a 5 liter.

Your engine already has a roller cam if that is what you mean. There are many options for performance parts. Which ones you need are determined by how much horsepower you want and how much money you have to spend.

Just some FYI, your car will run deep in the 13s with slicks and 3.73-4.10 gears which is faster than a 95 Camaro. I used to beat up on those F-bodies all the time back in the 90s with my 100% stock engine 1988 GT.

I know you say you're new to mustang but do you have much experience w/ doing a H/C/I swap? If not I'd say just do what darrell said make sure you got a good full exhaust, get rid fo the smog pump if you can and do the normal bolt on's and you should have no problem beatin your buds camaro. Hell I had low compression on two cylinders and had a full exhaust, a cam and intake and was walkin the dog on camaro's. Course once I got the new motor in I never got to race it.
