Hood scoop on 5.0
Hey guys a while back i asked about cowl hood scoops and maybe making my own. But i just found one that is molded to the form of the 87-93 Mustang hoods. If ya dont remember last time i was saying that i wanted to get a hood but dont have the money to do.
But i came across this on Ebay and was wondering what ya guys though about it. And if anyone has ever done this or if its just a bad idea. I figured i could rivet it and/or bondo it. Again i was just wondering how you guys think it would look, obviously i would paint the hood after. But just wondering if it would look dumb or not a bad way to save some money. Thanks. - The Novice |

yeah an 87. I wanted to get a new hood (cowl or Cobra R or something) But the hood i have is perfectly fine and new hood can cost up to lik $550 with shipping. and i hear the cheaper ones dont always align with the other body panels the best. So i was thinking that this might be a good, and cheaper way to get a nice look and let the engine breath a little better. So i was just wonderin what you guys though and if you have seen them and they look like shit or they actually can look good.

ive tried looking for the longest time. There arnt a ton of people with Fox stangs that sell it, and when they do it sells like hot cakes. Im gunan keep an eye open. Most of the Fox's are over by Detroit and there is a lot of parts its just i live in Grand Rapids, and with gas prices up i cant afford to go across state for a "deal" b/c by the time i take my truck there and back its no longer a deal, lol.
But i did find this on on Ebay thats not too far from me. Its like a Cobra R hood but with 2 holes, to be honest ive never seen one like this i dont think, jw what doe you guys think of it? Like it, hate it? Im just wondering i like to hear other people opinions. |

Cowl hoods are sexy on foxes. I don't like the second one you posted.

My vote is go with the first one and find someone to do the body work....dont go riveting it on and "bondo" it ....you need someone who knows how to work with fiber glass to install it and prep it for paint...probably cost you about 100-150 bucks for the work....maybe a little less... but I love the 3" - 4" cowl hoods so I say go with the first the second is not bad but do you like it cause of the price or do you "really" like it...its not up to us you have to be the one to look at it every day so you go with what you like

that job can easily be done by yourself,.. as long as you take your time and do it properly. I 've worked with fiberglass many a times. Resin and hardener must be mixed properly, fiberglass matting must be laid and pressed properly with resins,. and lastly you will need clean up work i.e. sanding and bondo to clean up the product. Tap plastics or any plsatic / resin shop will have what you need. Fiberglass mat comes in huge rolls and can be bought by the ft.,.. home depot carries resin and hardener for cheaper than tap.,.

yeah once you know how to work with glass its pretty simple ... I have done many speaker enclosures and a ton of door panels and fiberglass dashes and dash work....the main trick is when you are done paint it gloss black or another dark color and sand it with a block and the shiny spots that are left over you need to fill...dark colors show up the best and its just for prep work...you can use a very thin layer of bondo to fill the low spots...but dont try to cake it on thick cause its just gonna crack and look like crap later
