all the sudden today whilst driving, the car starts jerking like crazy back and forth i hear this compressed air sound coming from the engine. It cut off while i was driving and started back up luckily. But its been doing this all day. My voltage meter is going crazy even when the car isn't doing that. So is my thermostat gauge. Anyone have any ideas. This is the first ive ever encountered this problem. Im thinking electrical but i have no idea where to look. I looked under the hood and everything looked ok. It does it even more when i go over speed bumps or over any bumps. Ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks

my car had the same problems, i was at a car show and on the wa home it started doing the same as u described. so i replaced the dist cap and button, tested my coil, looked for grounds, everything and it still wouldn't act right. so i was just messing around with it and crunk it up and pulled the pos. off of the battery and boom it died, i was like h/o now, i got my buddy to give me a used alt. and wallah no problems at all.

yup not fun. I got it fixed tho. I looked a little closer at the battery terminals and the ground was like twisted together on one of the lines coming off, it meleted through the plastic covering and had vibrated apart. I tightened it up and all better. Im gonna replace it later today.
