E-cam in an auto

I just sold my E cam to someone with an auto. and he is having problems with it. He says it isn't idling well, and he called Ford Racing and they told him he needs to upgrade his valve springs, shim his rockers and increase his idle to 1k to avoid stalling when he puts it in gear. I can see needing the springs, and shimming the rockers I guess (I didn't think this cam was big enough to need it) but idling at 1k seems a bit overkill for that small of a cam to me.. has anyone here installed an E-303 in an auto and run into this issue?

Always put new springs in when a new cam is installed and always make sure those springs match the cam. Are his idle issues only when the car is in gear? A stock converter is real tight and a larger than stock camshaft might not want to idle in gear with a stock converter.

From what it sounds like, it idles poorly even when in neutral. I'm not sure how he degreed it either but the guy at ford racing didn't seem to even think to ask him that. If the stock converter is that tight, then I guess I could see having to set the idle higher. I never thought you would have to do all that for an e-cam, but then again, I've never played with a stock 302, let alone an auto. I was just double checking what he was told from the company. It didn't seem right to me, but I guess I was wrong, thanks.

If anything was screwed up during the installation than anything else you do is just going to be a band aid. If the converter is too tight for the cam the car will be kind of a turd during initial take off.
