Anyone used the Fidanza 1.0 clutch kit?
I got my first 5.0 the other day, and tore the tranny down to inspect a suspect bad throwout bearing (as stated by previous owner). Anywho, the throw out bearing was definately bad, but I wanted to take the clutch and pressure plate off just to make sure the rest was ok before I put it back together. Fast forward to today, the flywheel needs resurfacing or replacing, as well as the clutch kit. Well since I have to pay my help gas and case o' beer money to get here, I don't want to get him down here just to remove a flywheel to have it resurfaced, because that'll take who knows how long, then I have to pay him more money to come back and help me put the components back on the car, so here's what I'm looking into.
Jegs has a Fidanza 1.0 kit for $279 that is a Fidanza 1.0 clutch/pressure plate, and an iron flywheel. The clutch is supposed to hold 432 lb ft of torque and approximately 350 whp. That's more torque than the Spec Stage 1 and King Cobra, and this whole kit only costs about $60 more than the Spec or King Cobra clutch kit w/o a flywheel. I know Fidanza makes great flywheels, but I just haven't heard much about their clutches, they must not have been into them for as long. By having the entire kit here, we can just pull the old flywheel, then immediately bolt the new one on, saving him a trip and me money.
Anyways, since I know people are going to ask, it's roughly a stock 306 86 car. It only has long tubes and h pipe, and an E303 cam and a 600cfm Holley with a Weiand Stealth intake. I'm not going to be drag racing or slamming my car into gears and melting the rubber off my wheels every chance I get. I had a Trans Am LT1 6 speed and I don't think I ever lit the tires up, and I had an S10 with a 305 and some bolt ons, and burned the tires on it once, so I'm not going to be hotrodding around town and leaving black marks behind me, so that's why a lesser power clutch is what I'm looking at and not some Hays or McLeod or something higher dollar like that with an aluminum flywheel. Just wanted to see if anyone had some input on the reliability or quality of this clutch. Thanks!
