oil pan swap

I need to replace the oil pan on my 89 gt. It is stock and is dented in & leaking where the previous owner hit something? Is it possible to just loosen the motor mounts and jack the motor up a little to replace it or do you pretty much need to take the motor out? Also are the chrome oil pans ok or are they more likely to leak? And last question, do the stiffening plates that go under the bolts work ok or are they a waste of money? thanks for any advice

I would not put the el cheapo chrome pan on it, i would find a stock pan with the stock rail stiffeners to go back on the car, or order a new one from ford racing for $100. I do not know if you can change it in the car, I am sure someone else will chime in about that.

im pretty sure you have to pull the motor. i dont think there would be enough room to get the pan out because of the oil pump pickup and the crankshaft.

I pulled mine without pulling the motor. I was changing the gaskets, but I also changed the clutch at the same time. If you haven't changed your clutch in a while you can kill 2 birds with one stone. It probably will be tough to do with the motor in you have to get a lot of clearance.
