90 GT rear gears.

What are the stock rear gears in my 90 Mustang?

I called a local transmission shop to price out installing 4.10's in my 90 GT Automatic. The shop owner told me he had done 100's and that if I wanted to do it I would have to replace the entire center donut. He asked if I wanted posi and I said yes. He told me it would be expensive, but there was no other way to put 4.10's in my car.

Is this guy a moron or just trying to rip me off?

I was under the impression that I could buy the 4.10's and the install kit with shims and have it installed in with no other modification.

Am I wrong?

no youre right, the rear end already has fords trak-lok, he just needs to install the dam gears for you and stfu and stock is 2.73s

its not as difficult as that guy is tellin u and some autos have different that 2.73 if i remember right

i was also wondering how to tell which rear gears i have in my car.. i believe they either came with 2.73's or 3.27's stock

273 or 327 it doesn't matter go ahead and install the 410s btw like 93 hatch says the rear is a " posi " technically it's call a trac lok and while you're in there replace the clutches in the diff, it's probably long overdue anyway. nothing worse then trying out your new gears only to leave 1 black mark on the road > : 0 ( Look for another shop ! this guy is trying to rip you

Look at the "AX" code on your drivers door ID sticker.
M= 2.73
Z= 3.08
E= 3.27

To verify if those gears are really what is still in there..
Jack up the back of the car and spin the tire exactly one revolution, count the times the drive shaft goes around, that is your ratio.

He didn't give me the quote yet, he is calling his distributor.

I told him my car had posi and he asked if i wanted to keep it, I said yes. that is when he told me it would be expensive because I have to replace the rear center/donut.
