sounds like a pilot bearing or u-joint. But could very well be a dry input shaft bearing

Am I miss reading this or did you say you put Auto Transmission Fluid in your T5 manual and you wonder why it squeaks?

I looked that up and it is world class t5s that use atf.

Can you use atf in non world class t5s and how is it better then 70 gear lube?

Just wondering if I can switch.

How can you tell you have a WC unit? Bought a T5 which originally had gear old, and put Dexron in and have some sticky shifts trying to get into 1st and second.

Wow! Great info, I might drain out the ATF as it had gear oil before, the tag is missing so I am SOL for figuring out if it is WC.

Thanks

Ford motor company has never specified anything but atf for the t5's in their cars.

Many people on this sight are disagreeing with my info. I have continued to search and have found sites that recommend ATF and other that recommend gear lube. So I am starting to get confused myself.

One sight said all T5 after 1990 are considered world class but I haven't the foggiest who is right anymore.

I hope someone can give us something definitive on the subject

Don't diagree with what the company that manufactured the transmission says to put in it. Plain and simple, they are a lot smarter than you or I and they know what their transmission takes. Some manuals do take gear oil and some take ATF. Put in what your transmission takes and a t5 takes ATF. Also, Twist 2 Go posted that t5's have only ever taken ATF and he eats, breeds, and shits transmissions so I would take his word for it.

By they way, your driveshaft will still be spinning if your car is in neutral and still moving. First of all, I have never heard of a driveshaft bearing or u-joint bearing. You might be calling something by a different name than I am familiar with. And I expect it doesn't necessarily squeak when you are in neutral but it squeaks when you have the clutch disengaged and that is a common problem that everyone has, especially if they are on and off the clutch more than they should be. Sounds like a simple release bearing.

when i said u joint bearings i mean in the u joint itself the four ends have needle bearings in them so im wondering if the u joint isnt properly lubricated. but as i said in neutral the drive shaft does not spin, not driving and pushing down the clutch, but sittin in my driveway tranny in neutral and i get out of the car and there is noise coming from my transmission area similar to the sound of a squeaky fan belt.

sounds like it needs a release bearing for the clutch. try putting just a slight amount of pressure on the clutch pedal ( push it downwards about 1 inch) and see if it stops or changes in pitch. If so, there's your noise

to change the Throwout bearing isn't to bad, but it DOES require you to remove the transmission. I am not sure how the bellhousing looks on a mustang/t-5 combo, so I am not sure if you can pull the transmissiont itself out and leave the bellhousing and stuff on the car, and reach in and remove the bearing, or if you have to remove the bellhousing with the transmission and do it that way..... If you can just pull the transmission, thats generally easiest, but as I said I am not sure which way you need to go about it.

I would recommend a haynes/chilton manual, as they DO cover changing the clutch / bearing...
