If you ever wondered what gears your car has stock. Look at the door tag inside the driver side door. this applies only to the 86-95 5.0

Where it says AX on the far right on the bottom it will say 1 of the following 3 letters. M,Z and E.

M=2.73:1
Z=3.08:1
E=3.27:1

Obviously your door tag has to be intact to beable to get the info this way.

Hope this helps some people that always wondered what rear gear ratio there car originally came with or still currently have.

if you dont have ither of thoes jack up the car, mark a line on the rear tire it dose not matter which side, then make a mark on the driveshaft, rotate the tire one full turn while counting how many times the driveshaft goes around.

That is how you do it...

I did it myself...

Its the easiest way to do it...

Maybe you should know what you are talking about before telling people they are talking out their a$$es...Yoiu just owned yourself on that one...

3 1/4 turns of the driveshaft - 3.27

4 1/10 turns = 4.10

3 3/4 turns = 3.73

Well, sorry, I was taught a whole different way. From counting the teeth on the gear and doing the math.

My bad please forgive me. I just never in my life heard of that, I know what ratio meant, I just never thought rotating a tire and watching a crankshaft would work but know looking at it. I do see how that would be the easiest way to find out

Well, that's a totally valid way, but the topic creator DID ask for an easy way. . . :D
True, so sorry about that, maybe if my head wasn't so big I could knock off a few seconds off my times :wink
