viration (still)

^^^^ VIBRATION (i'm not big on spell checking)

drove all over God's green earth looking for a 15/16 socket so i could get my harmonic balancer off. finally found one. went home, took it off, put the new one on.... still vibrates. guess it's coming from somewhere else. is it possible that the flywheel has somehow gotten out of balance? or that the weight on the flywheel has come off and now it provides no imbalance whatsoever?

it does however feel a little better. but it still vibrates quite a bit starting at around 2500 rpm.

have you tried getting your drivshaft balenced? did you troubleshoot it first?

if its in neutral and vibrates when you rev it = not driveshaft or tires

if it does not vibrate when in neutral but when driving = not flywheel or balencer

if u take it up to a speed where it vibrates bad then push the clutch in or neutral if auto let the rpm go down if it still vibrates its most likely the driveshaft yolks or tires.

Lets take a few steps back. Does it vibrate in neutral or just when you drive it?

it's both. it seems worse when i'm driving, but only under throttle. and when in gear, under throttle, it does it at any rpm.

Does it feel like it is down on power at all? When is the last time you did a tune up? Are all the plug wires on tight? Are any spark plugs cracked? It sounds ignition related because it does it in neutral and while driving. Getting worse when driving points to the ignition even more because as you increase the load on the engine you increase the demand of the ignition system.

yes, it does. it does it while sitting still and while driving, but only under throttle.

Darrell... i couldn't tell you if it feels down on power at all. it's had the problem since i bought it. ( i knew it did it when i bought it. i got a good deal and mainly bought it for the body) so, i've never drivin it hard at all. the few times that it's been on the road, i've kept it under 60 mph and never ran it higher than about 3K rpm.

i did take the cap off today and noticed that the... little metal parts were all black and burnt looking. i'm sure that's not letting a proper spark run through it. i haven't pulled the plugs though. i'll have to take a look at that when i get home in a couple weeks. (going home on leave tomorrow)

would ignition problems really cause my car to feel like it's going to shake it's self apart? i'm not doubting you. i know about as much about engines as i do astro-physics. i guess i'll knock out a tune up when i get back and see if that does any good. i'm sure it's due anyway.

Yes, a misfire can make the car shake and vibrate.

+1 do a tune up on it if u havent. put a heat laser on the headers to see if they are all fireing. check the spark plugs. the flywheel could be off balence maybe thats the reason they sold it to you. make sure you dont have a 28oz flywheel and a 50oz damper. if its a manual maybe your clutch is off balence?
could ba a few things. do the tune up first.

well, the guy who sold it to me only had it for about a year. he didn't know anything about the car. he was unaware that it had H/C/I aluminum driveshaft and tons of suspension work. he sold it cause he was having a baby and needed some cash. (i only paid 1K) but he said that it started shaking like that about 6 months before i bought it from him. he rarely drove it because he was out on the boat for a lot of the time that he owned it. i tried to get him to give me the name and contact info for the guy he bought it from. but, he wouldn't do it. anyway. i'm hoping that a tune up will fix it. but i'm not holding my hopes too high

ok once you said aluminum driveshaft you got me... my car does the same thing once i switch the driveshaft to aluminum. i popped another one in and problem gone. try to find a stock driveshaft or someone who you know has a good one to try. i have to get mine balenced now costs about 60.00

but if it does it in neutral then no. grrrr maybe its both the driveshaft and flywheel.

at highway speeds, it won't vibrate if i'm just coasting in neutral, ir even if i let off of the gas and leave it in gear.... which makes an ignition problem make more sense to me.
